Additional information

THE BLUEFIELD CLINIC offers a compassionate & supportive psychological therapy & counselling service via telehealth. We assist individuals who are facing challenges with controlling their relationship with alcohol, 100% online Australia-wide. COLLABORATIVE CARE - Psychological treatment for alcohol problems is most effective when used in conjunction with pharmacotherapy. At The Bluefield Clinic, we understand that quality collaboration with medical and allied health professionals is a fundamental aspect of our approach and work closely with doctors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professions to ensure that our clients receive quality integrated care, particularly when clients engage in combined therapy (psychological & drug therapy), using first-line medication such as Naltrexone, Antabuse, and Acamprosate and other second-line drug treatments for alcohol abuse. THE SINCLAIR METHOD (TSM) – We provide supportive counselling for clients using TSM, an innovative evidence-based medical treatment using Naltrexone. TSM is broadly used overseas in UK, Europe, USA & Canada. Naltrexone, used according to The Sinclair Method, has been shown in clinical trials to be a safe and 78% effective treatment trials to reduce alcohol use gradually without detox to achieve moderation or abstinence. COGNITIVE-BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY – Our treatment uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), the recommended evidence-based treatment for alcohol abuse. CBT emphasizes what is going on in the client’s current life and includes motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, relapse prevention, health and wellness coaching, sleep hygiene, biofeedback therapy exercises (mindfulness meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery), contingency management and coping skills training. The precise interventions included in treatment depend on the complexity of clinical presentation, particularly severity of dependence and co-occurring mental health presentations, the most common of these being depression, anxiety disorders, stress, sleep problems, grief & loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder. We also understand that our alcohol problems can be related to other life challenges, such as work-related stress, relationship breakdown, financial pressures, social isolation, and other high-risk social behaviours. Our treatment program offers flexibility and scope to explore and address these types of associated or underlying issues. EYE-MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING (EMDR), if offered to clients who have experienced unresolved trauma. EMDR is based on several psychotherapy theories including CBT. EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the client to focus briefly on the traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation such as eye movements, tapping or clicking. This process reduces the vividness & intensity of emotions associated with the traumatic memory. CONSULTATIONS - The initial part of our program (duration 4-6 weeks) is intensive, and involves weekly appointments involving assessment, treatment planning, and treatment. Depending on the client’s progress, appointments generally become less frequent and of reduced duration. After 10 consultations the client will be offered a range of options for ongoing care to suit the client’s needs and affordability. OFFICE HOURS are flexible to accommodate a client's busy work schedule (Mon-Fri 8am to 8pm, Sat until 2pm). REBATES from Medicare and Private Health Funds are available (conditions apply). We offer a FREE 15 MINUTE CONSULTATION to discuss your needs and advice regarding the content of our treatment program. Please email us to arrange a mutually convenient time to chat.
