Dr Gávi is an internationally recognised psychotherapist, clinical educator, lecturer, community activist, policy consultant, and psychological researcher. His clinical work and advocacy incorporate respectful, culturally safe ways of supporting people who have been colonised or oppressed. He is Convenor of PACFA’s LGBTQI+ Leadership Group, and he also serves on the Victorian Leadership Branch of PACFA, the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Transgender Health, and the Victorian Intersex Expert Advisory Group.
As a multilingual, mixed polycultural, and anti-colonial migrant man of faith with lived experience of disability, homelessness, racism, and poverty, he is passionate about intersectional Anti-Oppressive Practice and challenging systemic oppression wherever he encounters it, including in nominally 'inclusive' spaces.
He has a PhD and MSc in Psychology (University of Surrey in England), a Master of Counselling (Monash), and a Diploma in Advanced Clinical Family Therapy. He is an AAFT-Accredited Clinical Family Therapist, a Registered NDIS Disability Services Provider, and a Clinical Member of the PACFA College of Psychotherapy and the Australian College of Relationship Counsellors. He also has clinical specialisations in complex trauma, dissociation, and family trauma (CCTP-II & CFTP).
Dr Gávi has over 15 years of polycultural, Anti-Oppressive Clinical Practice experience in outpatient, inpatient, and community settings around the world.
