Dr Asad Malik

I completed my medical degree (MBBS) in Lahore (Pakistan) followed by the Australian Medical Council examinations. I trained as a psychiatrist (Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists) in Sydney and on the Sunshine Coast (QLD). I later returned to Sydney to complete my advanced training in psychiatry of old age and I currently work as a consultant psychiatrist in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. I have special interests in mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, bipolar disorder, substance abuse disorders and neurodegenerative disorders like dementia. I have worked as an associate lecturer with University of Queensland and am currently linked with University of Sydney for medical teaching in psychiatry. My goal is to reduce stigma associated with mental illnesses, and to assist people in rural and regional communities to access the same quality mental health care which people in major cities have. I work with many other experienced psychiatrists and attend two different peer groups to discuss complex cases along with constantly improving on my knowledge and skills as a psychiatrist. I am interested in knowing about my patients and work on not just medical aspects of care, but also on your psychological and social recovery.
